pco.flim X is a frequency domain (FD) Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy (FLIM) camera using a CMOS sensor with two readout-taps per pixel. This 2-tap pixel-architecture enables the pixel-wise measurement of sample luminescence lifetime distributions in the frequency domain, enabling the acquisition and visualization of fluorescence lifetimes from 1 ns -to- 100 µs. A typical pco.flim camera system consists of the pco.flim camera and pco.flim laser. The camera has a frequency synthesizer, which generates the sinusoidal/rectangular modulation signals that control the modulatable lasers.
The pco.flim X camera offers TE cooling, which achieves -5°C with forced air (fan-based), allowing exposures as long as 2 seconds. Deeper cooling with an image sensor temperature of -20°C is achievable with liquid cooling, which enables longer usable exposure times of 4 seconds. The pco.aquamatic III liquid cooling system may be purchased separately. The use of a liquid cooling system also reduces vibration effects that can arise from fan-based cooling.
