This 3MPix series of cameras is based on the IMX421 image sensor from Sony’s Pregius Gen3 line of CMOS Sensors. These imagers are ideal for high dynamic range imaging applications requiring high resolution, fast frame rates, and high quality images. They have relatively large pixels with high sensitivity and a low read noise and are therefore a great choice for imaging under a wide range of conditions, including low-light imaging applications such as fluorescence microscopy. Sony’s Global Shutter technology ensures that all pixels begin and end exposure simultaneously. This is particularly useful in imaging conditions in which the field of view changes rapidly, either due to fast motion or due to rapid changes in light intensity. These sensors also perform well in the NIR range.
A key feature of the IMX421 Sony sensor is a Dual ADC mode, in which each pixel can be read out with two different gains. In this camera series the Dual ADC images are combined into a single hybrid HDR image directly on camera – thus removing the need for any host processing. Real-time on-camera HDR offers an additional 6-10dB of additional dynamic range without relying on post-processing or requiring additional complex software algorithms.
All cameras in this series are bundled with Pixelink Capture, a free, real-time, interactive multi-camera software application.
Host Interface: USB3.0
Color Space Options:
- Monochrome
- RGB Color
Configuration Options:
- Enclosed: this is the standard configuration, in which the camera electronics are enclosed in an enclosure.
- Board Level: in this configuration, a c-mount adapter is installed, but the camera enclosure is omitted. The user accepts all responsibilities related to using exposed, unshielded electronic circuits.
Note: the Sony IMX421 imager that is used in this camera series is also offered in an Embedded Kit for Xilinx.
